The goal of team development is to transform an embedded way of working into new behaviours that are sustainable. Personal relationships, emotional responses and entrenched beliefs may need to be addressed. Academy facilitators will research the current dynamics and existing relationships of the team prior to any event.
Being a "real team" does not require all members to either like each other or agree. It does, however require all members to work collaboratively and to create a situation where:
Members feel that their role and contribution is valid and valued
The potential capabilities of everyone are used effectively
To succeed in times of adversity and ambiguity all unresolved emotions and issues must be expressed and worked through
Conflict is not avoided but addressed, harnessed and used to improve and create opportunities
Academy facilitators will enable participants to safely confront issues and emotions and get the team to a point where they can manage these issues themselves.
The team will then focus on the changes that will need to be made to succeed in delivering specific business outcomes. Where the outcomes involve changes to strategy, activities or systems of resources, the facilitator will help the team develop a realistic and persuasive case for the changes that are necessary.
Teams are now more complex than ever; virtual, multicultural, multinational, project, networked, informal, etc. This makes it more important than ever to establish the business outcomes that need to be achieved.
